Dual Immersion

Dual Immersion offers a fantastic opportunity to students in West Sacramento. The program provides students with a complete academic program grounded in an educational environment that supports community action and celebrates cultural diversity. Students become orally fluent and academically proficient in Spanish and English. They acquire key language skills naturally and early in life, which enriches their cognitive ability in all subjects. Literacy in two languages broadens their academic, occupational, and economic opportunities.

The program will begin in 2015-16 with two classes in Kinder and grow each year.  The program will be offered through 8th grade. By the time these students, reach middle school grades they will be offered Sciences and/or Social Sciences in Spanish.

The event was a great success and could not have been done without the work of teachers, parents, and community member volunteers! Thank you for your support!

September 2013 -- Thanks in large part to the $10,000 grant from IKEA and a lot of hard work over the summer, we were able to unveil our new Elkhorn library! Our library is divided into two sections, a K-5 wing and a 6-8 wing. To help with our unveiling IKEA came and read to one of our Kindergarten classes!

Thank you IKEA and Elkhorn community for making this dream a reality!

April 5, 2017 --  Our Vice Principal, Mrs. Ramirez, was recognized yesterday as one of six outstanding educators by the California Lottery.

Mrs. Ramirez was filmed as she was acknowledged with a series of "surprises," to be compiled into a video that will be posted on the Lottery Website in May. These surprises included her favorite quotes on huge posters in the hallway, a football personalized with a special message presented by the football team, a flash mob of girls singing and dancing, and finally, an assembly, complete with posters and balloons, where 3 of her former students returned to share messages about how Shirley has touched their lives. She was then given a personalized Raiders jersey (her favorite team!), and presented with a plaque presented by representatives from the California Lottery, acknowledging her commitment to her students. We're looking forward to seeing the final video in the California Lottery's "Gracias, Maestro" series.

Congratulations, Mrs. Ramirez!
